Chain Stitch Rugs

Chain Stitch , be it in wool,  or silk, is done by hook referred to as Ari rather as needle. All the embroidery is carried on white cotton preshrunk fabric. Tiny stitches are used to cover the entire area with figures, floral patterns and motifs. The worth of each piece lies in the size of the stitch and the yarn used. The back ground fabric is not usually visible.

Chain stitch rugs are the specialty of Kashmir . The designs range from floral patterns to animal and human forms traced by a designer, while the craftsman embroiders in two-ply or three ply woolen/silken yarn. The rug looks like a carpet in which the pile is substituted by the texture. Chain stitch rug is used both as floor covering and wall hanging. The rug is supported with cloth-lining to add to the durability. It comes in sizes 2x3, 3x5, 6x4,and 6x9.
